Christmas Traditions in Columbia

Christmas in Columbia is celebrated much the same as it is in the United States. There are some differences that we will show below. One major difference is that Christmas starts getting celebrated as soon as December 7th. Here is how the country celebrates.

Decorations – Candles are the most used types of decorations in the area, although Christmas Trees are beginning to gain steam.

Food – A stuffed pork dish is eaten on Christmas Eve.

Christmas Eve – The most important meal of the season is eaten on Christmas Eve.

Traditions – On December 7th, the streets are decorated with candles, as well as other lighted decorations. Families gather to pray for each other from December 16th until Christmas Eve. Midnight mass is popular in the area as well.
