Krampus can basically be regarded as the Anti-Santa. He is usually seen as a hairy beast with large horns, carrying a whip and chains he uses to hit and bind bad children. He is believed in some areas to follow Santa or St. Nicholas and espouse warnings or punishment, usually by putting them in his sack and taking them away.

In many countries, and with growing popularity, men are dressing up as Krampus and tormenting their cities by yelling at women and children. In recent years, Krampus is becoming more popular in media, appearing in television shows such as Grimm and The League, as well as having a full movie made about him.
